I consider myself very lucky to have grown up in a rural community on the west coast of Scotland, an upbringing that provided for many a positive experience. Many of these still resonate with me today, but none more so than being able to roam free and be in complete solitude. As someone on the spectrum, these moments are not just an escape, but a sensory delight to be savoured. Despite the challenges, ASD can present, on a positive it provides me with an ability to experience the world in more detail than most. Immersed in the wild landscape, I like to lie on the hillside where nature’s orchestra mesmerises me. The breeze plays all the instruments it has to hand with the heathers, the grasses and the trees, young and old, all having their own unique sound. The birds sing, the burn purls and the river roars. Insects click, chirp and flies buzz. Light dances, and clouds sail slowly by. Time passes, but your unaware for how long. I try to capture something of this in my photographs, poems, short films and yoga teaching. In looking on or in joining a class I hope that you too can experience something of what it feels like to live in that moment.
